What is polyuria in relation to diabetes?

Polyuria refers to the condition of producing an abnormally large volume of urine. In the context of diabetes, it is commonly associated with high blood sugar levels, which can lead to increased urination. When glucose levels in the blood become too high, the kidneys attempt to excrete the excess glucose through urine. This process draws more water with it, resulting in increased urine output.

In individuals with diabetes, polyuria can signify poor blood sugar control and may be a symptom of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Along with excessive thirst (polydipsia), polyuria is one of the classic signs of diabetes.
